Authorities need to recognise us

Authorities need to recognise us - the real disability is being invisible.

Why the contribution is important

I was born in Te Rawhiti in 1933. There were 4 of us in our Whanau. Our mother took us to Auckland to be 'educated'. While we were in Auckland the council built the road through our whenua [land] because there was no one living on the land at that time. When I came home to live I had to go to the Maori land court to get my land back. The council engineers had ignored the original plan. The hurting part was having to go to the land court to get my land back.

The real disability we suffer from is being invisible. And authorities elect not to see us.
