Accessible information

Presently, most published information is computer generated.  Documents should be developed and produced according to well-accepted accessibility standards and conventions to facilitate the availability of information in alternative formats, including large print, audio, electronic text and braille.

EPUB3 should be endorsed by the New Zealand Government as the primary publishing standard from which all other formats can be produced so that students with a print disability can obtain required resources and materials in a timely manner.

Why the contribution is important

The Copyright (Marrakesh Treaty) Implementation Amendment Bill needs to go beyond the minimum requirements of the Treaty by enabling persons with print disabilities in New Zealand, or those acting on their behalf, to make accessible copies of works without the prior permission of the copyright owners.
