The Government Web standards are workable, understood and sadly only mandatory for the Public services sector. they need to be mandatory and especially a full part of procurement. No accessibility: no contract.

Work and Income is a shocker for accessibility.

The Porirua branch is the third largest in the country and yet it only has ONE disability carpark.
Work and Income expect clients to recruit other people to access the service on their behalf. It's degrading but accepted as normal, unnecessarily exposes disabled to the risk of exploitation, and worse it makes the assumption that people are available to assist clients for undefined chunks of time in a day.

Who knows how much disabled miss out on just because they failed to co-opt various friends and relatives into going into branch on their behalf?
